Farm Crazy!!!

While I had an international student we went to my friends farm so Nichika and her friend Alice (Arisu) could see what a New Zealand farm is like.

While we were at the farm my friend Nathan picked up one of the chickens and brought it over to the two international students, it was funny when they saw the chicken because they freaked out but they calmed down when they knew what it was.

We also saw the roosters, turkeys, lambs and their ducklings. Then we had wraps for dinner with chicken, avocado, lettuce and different other things. After that we played a game of tag and then hide and seek.

Orienteering Recount

During October my family decided that we were going to join in on an orienteering race in Rotorua. Our day started off with a light briefing. Then after that we got given a question sheet, a map and a compass.

We got given an hour to find as many points on the map as posable. We found about twenty four out of forty points. Our team was all children so we did pretty well. Most of all we actually had fun doing the course and got at least 1/2 of the points on the map right.

When we looked at the results we got 10/13 teams so we did well for a group of children.

A Surprise in the Harbour

During the last couple of weekends I have been working on my Science Award Badges. One of my tasks was I had to record some marine sounds, so we went all over Tauranga recording different types of wave sounds and bird calls. While I was recording the sounds of some waves in the Tauranga Harbour, we had some surprising visitors, a couple of very large short tailed stingrays came cruising past through the harbour. I was really lucky because I managed to get them on video as they glided past.
Here is a video of the stingrays:

We also saw some small jellyfish that the stingrays like to eat.

Love to Dance!

Last night I went to the RIMU HOUSE SOCIAL!!

It was so much fun dancing the waltz, cha cha, change of partner samba and many more. My favourite was the change of partner samba because you got to dance with several boys instead of just one. The supper was also really good there was lots to choose from.

I also liked when I danced with my mum it was so funny when we tried to teach the parents the cha cha because we got all mixed up. The funniest bit was when we all tried to teach the parents the waltz and everyone kept crashing into each other. It was funny because we all were falling over.

Recycle and Energy

1.     One of the ways we save power is by using a heat transfer to transfer heat.

2.
We also have a compost bin that we put our food scraps in.

3.Another way we help the the environment is we use a recycle bin so glass and paper can be recycled.

4. We also use energy efficient bulbs in our lights.

5.We have a solar panel on our roof so it uses the sun to power our  home.

Library Facilities

1. One of the great thing that the library has it internet so you can go to the library and use the computers there. There is also free internet for kids home work so if you need to get your home work done you can go to the library to do it.

2. Another one of the great services is the inter loan which is if the library does not have a book you would like then they will get it from another library like auckland.

3. There is also a teen book club it is on Thursdays it is once every month and is from 4pm till 5pm and is at the Greerton library  and you need to bring your library card. You get a snack as you arrive and then you will do a quiz and some games if you would like you can bring a friend who loves books the more the merrier.
SEE YOU THERE!!!
4. One of the other  things the library had to offer is the information request and that is when you go and get a form fill it out and then they will find the information for you then you can go and read the books that they give to you. You also can ask them and they will help you find it with you.

5. One of the coolest things you can do is you can ask the library to purchase a book and all you have to do is go get a form and fill it out then they may or may not get that book you asked for

The Cross Country Run

Yesterday we had cross country the whole run was 3 km long and it was so tiring.  I came 40th out of about 250 kids. Before the race I was quite nervous but after I felt so tired and I could barely walk and I kept falling over. At the start it was a bit crowded and after a while it started to spread out.

My Exhibition Reveiw

Today I went to the Tauranga art gallery to review an exhibition called The State of the House and it was painted by a lady called Raye Catran and was about how house are architecturally similar but they all show there personalities through the small differences like trampolines or boats and things like that. Raye Catran grew up in Tauranga and then went and studied in Auckland. My favorite painting was a painting called Cul de Sac because the different houses reminded me of some of my friends and families houses like one of the houses looked like my house because in its back yard there was a tramp and a slide and another one that reminded me of my friends house Jon and Jackie because it had a pizza over and a table out side.
The paintings were all painted between 2008-2013.
With her artwork she always puts things that are kiwi-ana in them so you know ti is from NZ

I'm Doing Gymnastics

Every Wednesday I go to the gym nasium to do gymnastics. My leaders are Marie and Anita and they are from the gymnastics academy and they are both really nice. We have learnt to do routines on the beam, floor and the vault. We also practise our handstands, cartwheels and rolls. My favorite part of gymnastics is doing trampoline even though we don’t learn routines.

I'm Playing Guitar

Every Tuesday I go to Mr Campbell's guitar class Mr Campbell is my teacher he is really funny and can play lots of songs off the radio. There are three other students in my class with me they are Zoe, Millie and Matthew the class is roughly half an hour long and is in the school band room. We have learnt some chords like F, C, D, Em, Am, G and Dm and we are learning a song at the moment. My lessons are once every week and are really exciting. My favorite part is playing on the electric guitar and the electric bass.

Here is a photo of me practising at home:

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

When I picked up the Hunger Games book I just kept reading and I could not stop it just seemed to draw me into it and I felt like I was actually in the book it was so good.

The book was about 24 tributes that came from different districts and they had to fight to there death in an arena.

My favorite part in the book was when Katniss, the main character, shot the apple in the pig's mouth during training.

My rating is 5/5 because it was such an awesome book.

The Tramp

The Linderman Track

During one of the week ends last term mum ,some students from Bethlehem college and me went on a trail walk we started at about 8:00 in the morning and got back about 4:30. During the walk a girl wrecked her ankle and we had to strap it. Going up it was really steep and so was going down. I was the youngest person there by three or four years. We also had another girl who sprained her ankle. Just after we crossed a stream there was a bit of a bank and I could not get up the bank so a girl called Kate helped. The leader that took us up the track was called paul. While we were there we practised using a compass and learnt to built bivouacs.

Crazy Adventures-Stingray Feeding

Have you ever been stingray feeding? I have in Gisborne. It was a bit scary because some of the stingrays were quite big. The first thing we did when we got there was go to a meeting place where one of the people checked everyone was there. Then we went out on to the reef where the leader chucked some meat into the water to attract the stingrays when the stingrays came near we all got a piece of meat it was quite funny to feed the stingrays because they were like vacum cleaners because they suck the food out of your hand.
Here is a photo of me, my dad, and my cousin in waders...

Here is a photo of one of the types of stingray it is called the eagle ray...
